Look at where Kawhi Leonard is when the Magic begin their transition. As they pass half court, he is not even in the screen, but he makes a great effort to come back and get the steal, and from there it’s coast to coast as the Raptors go up by 21 and never look back.
After the game 1 debacle, they needed to come out strong, and Kawhi definitely led the way for Toronto going for 37 points on 68% shooting.
However something very interesting happened, that I wanted to share with you. What up everybody my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it.
As Kawhi went 5 for 5 in the first quarter, we see that this is exactly the reason why you pay for a superstar. A huge part of it are the unique go to moves, that have been mastered to perfection.
And watching him execute gives the whole team a sense of relief and confidence.
The first 5 shots for Leonard all came from this free throw line area. He even slowed down on this fast break, to go exactly to this spot and take the shot.
So don’t think for a second that this was all by accident. He wanted to make sure that he opened up this crucial game with his most dangerous weapon.
And that definitely worked.
I made a video at the very beginning of the season showcasing his love for the midrange.
He’s been torturing defenders with this shot throughout the whole season.
And when his bread and butter is working like that, it opens up a lot of other problems.
Now opponents have to double him and that leaves opportunities for his teammates, and they all used it in this game.
Right here on the pick and roll Vucevic has to stop the drive, and that leaves Marc Gasol wide open for the three.
He missed the one at the end of game 1 but that wasn’t the case in game 2.
However as much as Leonard exploded, another key player for this win was of course Kyle Lowry. I criticized him a lot for his lack of aggression and attacking the rim.
And he made sure he did that. It seems that that was the main point of emphasis for the team. To set up Lowry and feature him early on in the game. There were a lot of play calls for high percentage looks specifically designed for him.
And fortunately for the Raptors he stepped up big and shot with confidence.
Thing is now you can shoot with confidence as well, at least when it comes to buying tickets. Because Seatgeek got you covered for easy and high percentage shots on seats, right from your mobile phone. Kawhi’s bread and butter is the midrange, and you can pick your, whether it’s a playoffs game, a concert or any other live event.
The app has green dots for good deals, and red dots for not so good deals and they even have a picture of the view from your seat. So you can make sure you always have a wide open look.

Thank you Seatgeek for sponsoring this video.
Anyway, I wanna see how Lowry’s game translates on the road, in the 2 games in Orlando.
And Toronto has to win at least 1 of those in after losing home court.
And as far as the Magic go, they will need to make adjustments and try to not let Kawhi get to his sweet spot. So I am looking forward to game 3.
