Why are Pokémon GO's recent events so BAD?

Lately I think a lot of Pokémon GO players have been bored with the game. The last few events, including the Equinox and Bug Out events, haven't been very exciting, and it seems like not very many people are playing the game right now. What's wrong with the recent events in Pokémon GO?
