In this video I go over the latest rumor of Instagram (May 2019) possibly getting rid of likes on posts.
What they are saying this means is the person who posts can see how many likes they are getting from their content but their followers and the public will not be able to see how many total likes their posts have gotten.
My thought for why Instagram is doing this is to reduce the amount of pressure people are feeling towards getting more likes on their posts.
But most likely they are using it as a paid ad strategy as well.
Overall I think this is a good thing for businesses and brands because they can be more focused on making quality content and delivering value versus trying to win what many people call a "popularity contest"
I think it will also help people not get disqualified as being talented because they don't have as many "likes" on their posts.
ROI (return on investment) is often made from quality content versus the most "liked" content and those two are not always one in the same.
So I am not saying that likes and followers don't matter because they do give you a gauge of what is resonating but it is not the entire equation.
Focus on developing the relationship with your following and the best ways to do that are by entertaining and educating them!
