During April of 2019, I visited my bro Danny out in Altoona to hang out and get some buffing in, with intent on shooting the shortline operations surrounding the NS Pittsburgh Line. I spent from April 7th through the 10th and decided to start out short line adventures on Monday April 8th, where we decided to catch the Nittany & Bald Eagle "NBER-4" arriving at Wilson Yard in Tyrone to interchange cars with NS C42. Starting at the intersection of Washington Avenue and 13th Street in Tyrone, the NBER-4 makes its way into town with North Shore GP38s 2004 and 2012 ahead of NBER GP7 4174 with a short consist for NS. The 4174 retains its original CNW paint, minus a few touch ups from its nose chop job..
We see NBER-4 as it arrives at Wilson Yard in Tyrone, where I realized by buddy Scott was the engineer! We see NS C42 arrive at the yard with GP38-2 5643 and 5631 dragging in a big consist from Rose Yard in Altoona for the NBER, 35 cars to be exact! Meanwhile, NS trains 593 and 64T pass by while the interchange happens..
The chase back to Bellefonte begins as NBER-4 guns through Washington Avenue in Tyrone with the smokey trio of NBER 4174 and North Shore 2012 & 2004 pulling the 35 car consist outta Tyrone, we catch up to them again at Vail before beginning a pacing sequence of the train along PA 220 between Julian and Bald Eagle..
Finally, we see NBER-4 passing under the former Pennsylvania signal bridge at Milesburg, PA as they enter the Bellefonte Branch and enter Sunnyside Yard in Bellefonte, where the train is broken down. The power is then taken back to the Coleville Shops to end their day.
