Poor regulation makes drugs in developing countries "worse quality" than drugs in U.S

Poor regulation makes drugs in developing countries Though generic prescription drugs abroad are far less expensive than drugs in the U.S., new reporting reveals that the quality of those cheap drugs is appreciably worse. Katherine Eban, author of the new book "Bottle of Lies: The Inside Story of the Generic Drug Boom," explains the discrepancy in drug quality between U.S. and developing markets: "These companies have what is called dual track or multi-tiered production, which is they make their better drugs for more regulated markets, like the U.S. and the E.U., and they will make worse quality drugs for developing markets, or markets that they call 'R.O.W,' which is 'rest of world.'"
