I was totally attracted to the cover of this lovely book. The bright colours and the artist's style really drew me in.
Joy is a lovely book, with its beautiful illustrations and a beautiful story, and I'd be lying if I said it didn't give me a little lump in my throat while I read it, as it made me think of my own late grandmother.
The story focuses on a little girl who notices her Nanna is not herself anymore. She's sad, and no longer the happy Nanna she once was. Why? Who knows! But the girl sets about finding some joy to capture, to give to Nanna.
This lovely book is definitely one for the bookshelf!
I noticed Ollie in particular showing emotion on his face as I read it. He was concerned for the little girl, bless him. I could tell he really wanted her to succeed in finding and capturing the joy for her Nanna.
And that's the point of this book, I believe - to help children feel for others. It works.
