The #1 Reason You Will Not Buy EGO's Commercial Battery Series

The #1 Reason You Will Not Buy EGO's Commercial Battery Series The reveal of a commercial line of battery equipment from EGO Power Plus at the 2018 GIE Expo caused a bit of a stir, but this is the biggest reason why I can tell you that you WON'T be purchasing this equipment.

After a public reveal in Q4 2018 EGO announced new for the US market, a commercial battery powered lawn care platform with a 28AH backpack battery at its core. Powering an electric hedge trimmer, electric handheld blower, and electric string trimmer, this platform promised all day performance (7 hours hedge trimming, 6 hours string trimming, 1 hour 10 minutes blower full speed).

Initial concerns include the crazy price ($1300 for the battery pack and harness, $200 for the charger, which is sold SEPARATELY from the battery pack, and $400 for each tool) tipping out at $3,000 for one battery pack, a charger, and three tools, as well as the longevity and practicality of battery power for all day commercial use.

Expect a full lineup of videos on these products, including first looks and 30 day reviews of each of the individual units, a look at the pros and cons of the system, things you need to know and thing about before purchasing yourself, how the commercial battery pack works with current residential grade equipment, and much more.

Another goal is to provide a central resource for anyone searching for information on this platform, as currently there are only a handful of 4 or 5 GIE 2018 videos showcasing this equipment (which are fairly identical as far as the information given) and two videos showcasing demo blowers and backpack batteries (neither of which proves this is a replacement for a commercial backpack blower).

EGO Power Plus is a company with a long history of excellence in the battery powered OPE world, and while I have no doubt their products will perform well and customer service will be outstanding, I can't help but worry about the overall practicality of battery application in the commercial world as a replacement for gasoline equipment.

Don't get me wrong, I know it will happen in my lifetime...I just don't think we are there yet. Will EGO prove me wrong? Will battery beat gas? Stay tuned over the next month as we churn out the videos and test these pieces to the max!

Be sure to leave and questions or concerns in the comments, I respond multiple times a week to all comments no matter how old a video is.
