In this video, we focus on the Ranger Program, which was NASA's plan to get images of the lunar surface. At the beginning of the video, we cover James Webb, John F Kennedy, Wernher Von Braun, and their efforts to start NASA's Moon exploration programs. These programs, including NASA Ranger Program, would lead the way for the Apollo Program.
Then we look at all the Ranger Missions. Ranger 1 and Ranger 2 were Earth orbit missions that both failed. Ranger 3, Ranger 4, and Ranger 5 were the second design, all of which tried to crash into the Moon or be a NASA Moon impactor, but again all three of them failed. The Ranger spacecraft design then changed to include redundant systems since the Ranger Program wasn't working as intended. Ranger 6 was the first of the new design and also failed. Following Ranger 6, the last three missions, Ranger 7, Ranger 8 and Ranger 9 were all successful. We look at some of the images received from these missions, and what it meant for the upcoming Apollo program.
