His rival Jeremy Hunt polled just over 46 thousand. In a short acceptance speech Mr Johnson declared that his mission was to take Britain out of the EU by the 31st of October and re-unite the country. The BBC’s political editor Laura Kuenssberg, Chief Political Correspondent Vicki Young, Scotland Editor Sarah Smith and Europe Editor Katya Adler give their take on the day’s events.
