A demolitions unit imploded the remainder of the collapsed Morandi Bridge in Genoa on Friday, nearly a year after it initially collapsed and killed 43 people.

Heavy rainfall caused the bridge to crumble in August 2018 but two of its towers remained standing.

Locals were evacuated from the area so the detonation could be carried out safely.

A new bridge designed by world-famous architect Renzo Piano will stand in its place.
