Stepping into Swing: Lesson 2 - How to REALLY Play "The Pattern"

Stepping into Swing: Lesson 2 - How to REALLY Play This lesson is on how to achieve a good sound while playing time, and was one of my main motivations for creating this video series. This lesson will cover:

1) The basic swing pattern (0:39)
2) How to get a strong, clear ride cymbal sound (2:38)
3) How to get a strong, crisp hi-hat sound (5:50)
4) Feathering the bass drum (9:22)

There are many details to the basic form of the swing pattern that often go overlooked but are CRITICAL to the strength, clarity, and authenticity of your time feel. There are many more things to consider, especially regarding the ride cymbal, but following these steps will give you strong fundamentals to build off of.

Use headphones to more clearly hear the feathering examples.
