Paris Noir: An educational travel experience

Paris Noir: An educational travel experience Every time we travel, we learn. Whether it's gaining new appreciation for a culture, grappling with geography, or taking an in-depth look at history, to travel is to be enriched and enlightened.

This summer the Traveling Cyclones offered "Paris Noir" as an opportunity for Cyclones everywhere to learn more about how the African-American expatriate community had a profound influence on music and culture in the City of Light. Hosted by Talbot Endowed ISU Alumni Association President and CEO Jeff Johnson ('14) and his wife, Peggy, "Paris Noir" was not only a bonding experience for Cyclone passengers -- but it was also an opportunity to see history come to light and gain appreciation for African-American history beyond the borders of the United States.

The Alumni Association's official travel newsletter, "Cy's Suitcase," recently sat down with Stephen ('79 phys ed, MS '83) and Vanessa ('78 sociology & anthropology, MPA '89) Latimer (A) of Ames, whose experience on "Paris Noir" was a celebration and a first.
