for the next general election he is raising concerns about the ability of the Electoral
Department to ensure a fair and impartial poll.
The main opposition Saint Lucia Labor Party (SLP) has called on the electoral department
to ensure a free and fair election when St. Lucians next go to the polls.
Opposition Leader Philip Pierre believes that the next general election should be closely
monitored to ensure that it is a fair one.
Mr. Pierre says the Labour Party has been getting its candidates prepared and is ready to
form the next government.
So far four candidates in the persons of Kenson Casimir, Urban Dolor, Therold Prudent and
Christopher Hunte have expressed an interest in contesting the Gros Islet seat, while
Wayne Giuard has presented himself for the Anse La Raye Canaries seat and former Gros
Islet MP Emma Hippolyte is seeking to represent Soufriere.
Soufriere MP Herod Stanislaus says he is not perturbed by the announcement of the new
candidate.
The UWP captured 11 seats of the 17 seats at the 2016 general election.
The electoral department in responding to Pierre’s statements says its track record is
testimony to its staff’s competence and the department’s ability to carry out its mandate.
