The video is based on the data from the American Kennel Club and that is why it is precise for the USA. Especially in the old times, in different regions, different dogs were popular. Also, the ranking is based on the numbers of registered purebred dogs.
Dog popularity is not a contest and every dog breed has its advantages and disadvantages. But it is interesting how the breeds popularity changed over the decades. The main reason is, that back than, all the dog breeds had to have a purpose. Today, majority of them are our family companions. The breeds requierement changed and the breeds popularity changed with it.
