Veterinarians Have Higher Suicide Rates Than The General Public Veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and technologists die by suicide at a higher rate than other professions.
In most of these deaths, the veterinarians consumed an animal euthanasia drug called pentobarbital.
The suicide rate for male veterinary technicians and technologists was five times higher for men.
The rate is 2.3 times higher for female veterinary technicians than the average U.S. citizen.
