In this video, we will talk about the top five scales every guitar player should know. Most scales and patterns discussed in this lesson will be familiar to you if you've played for a little while. The important thing here is to know WHY they are so often used.
Minor pentatonic scale:
This one sounds awesome and is also used on so many musical styles (not only Blues!)
Plus you find it hidden in most minor modes: Dorian, Phrygian and Aeolian.
Major Pentatonic scale:
Just as its minor version, the major penta is hidden in most Major modes (Ionian, Mixolydian and Lydian)
Dorian mode:
This one is a favorite amongst modern electric players. If you are playing in funk, blues, rock, pop - Dorian is your friend!
Mixolydian mode:
Similar to the Dorian mode. The only difference is the third which is Major.
Ionian mode (or major scale):
This is probably the most useful scale as it allows guitar plaers to figure out any interval, chords, scales on the fly. Learn it!
