Some people say, “The Sky is the Limit” when they talk about their dreams and all the things they want to do with their life. For adventurous travelers, this phrase definitely pushes them to find their way into the most remote locations around the world, but some places are just out of their reach - it doesn’t matter how badly they want to test their limits, the entrance to some places is strictly forbidden for simple mortals like you and me. Today we’ll be looking at ten forbidden places around the world and I’ll tell you why you’re not allowed in them. Perhaps you already have some places in mind, but I’m sure you’ll be shocked to find out why these places are forbidden and who are the people making sure you don’t come in. Stay tuned all the way to check out our number one pick! You might be forbidden from entering this place, but never from watching this video and learning about what goes inside this creepy place. Let’s begin!

10. Doomsday Vault - Norway

Doesn’t it feel sometimes like the world is going to end soon? Well, if that were to happen, you need to know that Norwegians have a plan! In a place so remote that no commercial airline can fly beyond this point, Norway has built the Doomsday Vault, a seed bank with reserves of seeds from all around the world, ready to be used in the case of a catastrophic event.

The Vault has seeds from different countries, and some of them are not even in regular use anymore. It is said that having diversity of crops can help humanity to restart their agricultural activities after an apocalypse, but it can also help us adapt to challenges we have today, like global warming. The vault is not open to the general public. In fact, at some point the vault was intended to function without any human intervention - but some flooding got in the way of the plan, and humans had to come to the rescue. However, the place is kept from having any visitors. It’s not like it’s in an accessible area anyway!

9. Lascaux Cave - France

This cave in the southwestern region of France holds about 600 paintings from the past - art that’s considered to be more than 2000 years old. In fact, it is believed that some of these paintings were made between 17,000 and 15,000 Before Common Era. The art in the cave depicts deer, bisons, felines and horses, which are the most common amongst the paintings. The place was discovered by a group of four boys after their dog innocently fell inside a fox hole in 1940. After sharing the news to their teacher and getting the word to the right people, the place opened to the public in 1948, and remained that way until 1963. It was then, that a group of experts realized that the carbon dioxide in the human breath was damaging the paintings. Also, artificial lights were making the colors fade and algae started to grow. It was necessary to keep visitors away, but a replica of the cave was made twenty years later to welcome and educate thousands of people every year.

8. Ni’ihau Island - Hawaii, USA

A trip to Hawaii is a trip to paradise. Surfing spots, stunning landscapes, romantic getaways and so much more! - this place is the perfect definition of Heaven on Earth. Every Hawaiian island has something different to offer, making it the perfect destination for pretty much anyone. But there is a small hidden island that is not necessarily a place you can just add to your next holiday itinerary - I’m talking about Ni’ihau island, which is also called “Forbidden Island.”

With less than 200 residents, Ni’ihau has remained closed to tourists in an attempt to preserve its nature and the authenticity of Hawaiian culture. It seems like people on this island are very strong defendants of their native values as they prefer to speak their native dialect over English and they were the only island to vote against Hawaii becoming a state in the late 50s. In recent years, visiting the island has become possible through a helicopter tour that will take you to some of Ni’ihau’s best beaches. However, interaction with Ni’ihauans is strictly prohibited. They don’t want to be spoiled by your crazy modern world ideas.
