This short video shows how the diameter of a thrombosed vein varies according to the age of the thrombus. In presence of an acute deep vein thrombosis (DVT) it is often common to note an enlarged diameter of the thrombosed vein, while in presence of a chronic DVT the vein diameter tends to reduce and in some cases it may be smaller of the one of the satellite artery.
