In this series, we take you year by year showing you how our net worth has grown on our journey to financial independence. After we graduated from college and law school with TONS ($300,000) of student loans, credit card debt, and family loans we made the controversial decision to take on MORE debt in order to invest in real estate. Coming out of the recession with uniquely low property prices and interest rates, we scrimped, saved, and invested as much of our income as we could in real estate instead of paying down lower interest debt. Dave Ramsey would have been VERY VERY upset with us, this is NOT the approach advocated by his baby steps and debt snowball method, but as you'll see with time - it worked for us. Over this series you’ll see our assets and debts and net worth all go up, and the mistakes (many) and victories (some) we experienced along the way. We hope that by being honest about our personal finances on our path to financial independence we can contribute to the conversation about what it takes for young people these days to get out of debt and build wealth. There is no one size fits all solution for financial problems, but this is our story.
