Speaker: Dr Katy Beinart, an interdisciplinary artist who completed a practice-based PhD in Architectural Design at UCL’s The Bartlett in 2019
About the lecture:
From church kneelers and banners to mosque table cloths and challah bread covers, fabrics are literally woven into the experience of faith and worship. In 2016, as part of her PhD at UCL’s The Bartlett, Katy Beinart brought together 15 women from different faith communities to explore the relationship between creativity and religious practice, and share how fabrics shape and illuminate their faith. In this lecture, she will talk about the stories and journeys this work uncovered and what she found out about women’s hidden contributions to the lived experience of spirituality and devotion.
