The natural full grain leather is made from bovine hide and has been tanned using tannin found in tree bark and other vegetative matter sourced from local tanneries and chosen to meet specific weights, tempers and ageing properties. The leather hasn’t been sanded, buffed or corrected in anyway so the natural patterns remain, giving it a life of its own. The colour, tone and shape will be gently influenced by the environment and naturally change over time due to the effects of oils, sunlight and ageing, not unlike human skin. The spectrum of colours range from a divine dark caramel brown to an alluring amber, and will burnish darker in spots of frequent contact. These unique natural leather pieces will arrive to you untreated and ready for use. While no dyes or oils have been used, a conditioner is recommended as an extra layer of protection.
Everything crafted at The Primary Field is made by hand with needle and thread, nothing else. Using a traditional saddle stitch and 3 to 6 cord waxed thread to make, our products are stronger and more durable than anything made with a machine stitch.
Sewing machines use a lock stitch, which is essentially two parallel threads that can unravel if either of the threads is broken. Alternatively, a saddle stitch, which can only be done by by hand, with two needles, stitch by stitch, is two threads that alternate sides to create two lines of stitching. In the event that one of the stitches breaks, the other will hold the seam together
