This video, however, dives into Gastrointestinal Disorders specifically. Often times Veterans try to service connect GERD Secondary to Gulf War Syndrome. This is often denied because GERD has a very clear list of symptoms and GERD itself has Structural Alterations.
As described above, symptoms of Gulf War Syndrome are medically unexplained. With GERD, this is not possible due to the Structural Alterations.
Functional Dyspepsia, on the other hand, is a disorder with similar symptoms to GERD, but there is NO STRUCTURAL DAMAGE, which is extremely important when filing a claim for Gulf War Syndrome.
So, what you need to be asking yourself is whether or not your doctor or specialist gave you the proper diagnosis. Is your Gastrointestinal Disorder Functional or Structural?
If you are set on filing a claim for Gulf War Syndrome you need to know that it is a difficult claim to file due to the fact that you have to have very little unexplained symptoms and no structural alterations.
