According to a report by Reuters, on Wednesday, the New York City medical examiner who conducted an autopsy on an unarmed black man who was killed during a 2014 arrest testified that a police officer's chokehold set off a 'lethal cascade' of events that ended in the man's death. The New York Police Department is reportedly conducting a disciplinary trial for Officer Daniel Pantaleo that could result in his dismissal, nearly five years after the death of Eric Garner. Reuters reports that the department has banned officers from using chokeholds for decades now, claiming that the maneuver is too risky.
