It seemed like almost every musician and music lover in the Atlanta scene was at last night's Iron Maiden show at Cellairis Amphitheater. The venue seemed pretty close to capacity and full of rabid heavy metal fans. I saw many friends there certainly missed seeing many others among the densely packed city we'd created last night.

I'd originally purchased lawn seats for the show, but decided to upgrade them to section 207 when I learned that it was likely to rain all evening. But as anyone who's lived in Atlanta for a while knows, it's impossible to predict every storm with great certainty and we were spared any downpours throughout the evening. I felt a few drops about 30 minutes into the show, but nothing more appeared thankfully.

Even after the seat upgrade, I found myself in uncovered seats that were still a long distance from the stage. I was undecided at first as to whether I'd even attempt to do a video of the show, since I knew my results with a camera phone would be pretty mediocre without a decent zoom. In the end, I elected to sneak my Canon Vixia HD camera and managed to capture the compete show! Let me tell you though that it was VERY PAINFUL to remain rigid for nearly 2 hours as I did my best to capture every moment. Shooting from such a long distance is very difficult and often produces fair to good results at best. In this case, it turned out better than I thought - so I'd rate it as at least very good.

Although I got int some wider perspective shots and zooms on the stage, it was far too difficult to maintain steadiness. Also, there were constant obstructions from arms shooting upwards and people holding their phones up to try and capture their own perspectives. I settled upon the strategy of shooting the right projection screen for the most part, which allowed me the benefit of those professionally shot close-up's. It was really the best choice from my particular vantage point.

Iron Maiden,
