Dr Kakarla Subba Rao was born on 25 January 1925 in a middle class agricultural family at Pedamuttevi, a small village in Krishna District of Andhra Pradesh, India. He was a bone radiologist and former Director of Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences in Hyderabad And was also the Chairman at Padmawati women medical college. He was also honourable radiologist at osmania medical college. EDUCATION HE HAD DONE HIS MBBS FROM ANDHRA MEDICAL COLLEGE. And done his Residency From USA And came to India and worked as an honourable radiologist at Osmania medical college and again went back to USA to complete his fellowship
Dr. Rao was the founder president of Telugu Association of North America (TANA), an umbrella organisation for Telugu speaking people in the United States.
Dr. Rao joined Nizam Orthopedic Hospital and did much to improve it. On the call of late Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao, he implemented new structure to the Nizam Orthopedic Hospital and converted to into a premier medical institution in the country now called Nizam Institute of Medical Sciences. Today, NIMS is prestigious medical institute of excellence in patient service, education, training and research.
The Government of India honoured Rao with the Padma Shri on 26 January 2000, in recognition of his valuable contributions in the field of medicine.
