Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said : “ it was set (by the Messenger of Allah sallalahu alayhi wa sallam) a time for us to trim the moustache, cutting the nails, pluck the armpit hair and shave the pubic hair ; we were not to leave that for more than forty nights. ” Narrated by imaam Muslim in as-Saheeh (258). It was also narrated by Imaam Ahmad and nassa'i (14) with the wording : The Messenger of Allah (praise of Allah be upon him) set a time limit for us, we were not to neglect the nails, the moustache... beyond 40 days and another time he said 40 nights
