Higher Temperatures in Indian Ocean Cause Deadly Rainfalls in East Africa

Higher Temperatures in Indian Ocean Cause Deadly Rainfalls in East Africa More than 200 people have perished in east African floods and mudslides since the beginning of the rainy season, which is not over yet. Experts say the rains were especially heavy this year due to a phenomenon called the Indian Ocean Dipole which can cause a rise in water temperatures in the Indian Ocean of up to 2 degree Celsius. This leads to higher evaporation rates off the East African coastline which results in more rain inland. VOA's Zlatica Hoke reports.
