An international workshop 'Good Practices in Academic Publishing' The Digital Cultural Heritage کەلەپووری کلتووری دیجیتاڵی (DCH) Research Group from the Research Center at Sulaimani Polytechnic University زانكۆی پۆلیتەكنیكی سلێمانی recently hosted the first of its kind 3-days Iraq publishing workshops that run from May 30th to June 1st, 2019.

This was one of the two series of workshops in Iraq that are funded by the British Academy, upon a successful application by Dr. Mehiyar Kathem (from UCL and the Nahrein Network), Dr. Rozhen Kamal Shah Mohammed (from DCH at the Sulaimani Polytechnic University), and Dr. Jaafar Jotheri from the University of Al Qadisya and the University of Kufa.

The series of closed workshops started with a public workshop entitled "Good Practices in Academic Publishing" on May 30th, 2019 at the Presidency of Sulaimani Polytechnic University that attracted over 102 academics and scholars from different universities and organizations in different cities.

The closed workshops that run between May 30th and June 1st, 2019 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm brought together a total of 44 participants and audits from 8 Universities and 5 cities across Kurdistan Region and Northren cities in Iraq.

The workshops covered various critical topics on academic writing and publishing with high international standards, including abstracts and research outlining, research questions and arguments, critical thinking, ethics in research and academia, using theories in research, research methods and methodology, and grant proposals writing. The workshops were led by UK academics Professor Lloyd Ridegeon from the University of Glasgow, Dr. Sara Felix from London School of Economics, Dr. Mehiyar Kathem (from UCL and the Nahrein Network) with additions from Dr. Rozhen Kamal Mohammed-Amin.

The interactive and hands-on workshops generated massive interest, information sharing, discussions, research skills development, and networking among the involved academics as per the verbal and written feedback. They also provided opportunities for the academics to reflect on their academic writing and publishing experiences and practices.
